What is Dyscalculia?
Dyscalculia means ‘difficulty with an impairment in mathematics' and is a specific learning difficulty leading to problems with certain skills used for calculations. This affects the ability to understand quantities, the mechanics of mathematics and the ability to recall basic mathematical number facts.
Students with dyscalculia often understand the logic behind maths, but do not know how or when to apply what they know to solve maths problems. They also often struggle with working memory and may have a challenging time holding abstract numbers in their mind while doing maths problems with multiple steps.
